Crispy Rosemary Fried Chicken Recipe: A Tasty New Way to Fry Chicken

Woodsy rosemary makes this fried chicken recipe aromatic and downright delicious. This easy rosemary fried chicken recipe is ready in about 30 minutes and has some unexpected flavors. The crispy fried chicken is an easy weeknight meal or Sunday supper.

For this crunchy skillet fried chicken you will need the following simple ingredients: bone-in chicken pieces (legs, thighs, breasts or wings), onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, flour, fresh or dried rosemary (use fresh is you can!), hot sauce and vegetable oil for frying it all up.

Serve this crispy rosemary fried chicken with your favorite side dishes. We like serving it with a vegetable and creamy mashed potatoes.

Fun Fact: In the Mediterranean, rosemary is said to bring luck to newly married couples, so baskets of the fresh herb are often given as wedding gifts.

Recipe Notes

  • If you don't like rosemary, substitute thyme, oregano or basil.

Here's how to make it:

  1. Put the chicken pieces into a large bowl. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. Combine the onion powder, garlic powder and paprika. Sprinkle the mixture over the chicken.
  3. Put the flour and rosemary into a shallow dish or into a large plastic bag. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Heat about 2 inches of oil in a skillet to 350 degrees F.
  5. Drizzle a little hot sauce over the chicken and toss. Dredge or shake the chicken in the seasoned flour and then put it into the hot oil.
  6. Cook until the chicken is golden brown and internal temperature has reached 160 degrees F, about 8 to 12 minutes per side depending on how large the chicken pieces are. Drain on paper towels.
