3-Ingredient Authentic Indian Flatbread Recipe Is Easy to Make at Home

A paratha is an Indian flatbread that's fried in oil. This delicious fry bread native to India and several other countries can be eaten alone or with toppings that range from honeyjelly and powdered sugar to fajitas, chicken and beans.

In the United States, Navajo tacos are a popular way to serve fry bread, and that's how I discovered this bread on an Indian reservation in Oklahoma.

Cuisine: Indian
Prep Time: 40 minutes
Cook Time: 4 minutes per flatbread
Total Time: 1 hour (approximately)

Servings: Makes 4

Here's how to make it:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt and baking powder.
  2. Add the hot water. Mix with your hands until it becomes a soft dough. Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  3. Divide the dough into four portions. Roll each portion out on a floured surface into a 6-inch circle.
  4. Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet to 375 degrees F. Fry the bread until it is golden brown on both sides, about 2 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
