You'll need:
- 4 cubed steaks
- milk or buttermilk, for dipping
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- vegetable oil, for frying
Gravy
- 3 tablespoons oil from pan drippings
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 2 cans evaporated milk
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Here's how to make it:
- Put the eggs into a shallow bowl. In another bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, black pepper and salt, to taste. Pour some milk into a third bowl.
- Heat about a 1/4 inch of vegetable oil in a frying pan.
- Dip the steaks into the milk, then into the egg, then into the flour. Shake gently to remove the excess.
- Put the steaks into the hot oil and cook until well browned on both sides. Transfer to paper towels and keep warm.
- To make the gravy, remove all but about 3 tablespoons of the pan drippings. Sprinkle in the flour and stir until a paste forms. Slowly pour in the evaporated milk and whisk to combine. Bring to a boil and cook until thickened. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Serve over the steaks.
