Got elderberries? Elderberries have long been used to fight the flu, colds and even upper respiratory infections, according to WebMD. Elderberry (Sambucus nigra) is the dark purple berry from the European elder tree. It has a long history of use for cold and flu symptoms. According to a National Library of Medicine article, two clinical trials using a liquid elderberry extract (Sambucol®, Israel) showed a reduction in symptoms and duration of influenza infection.

WebMD also notes that the berries and flowers of elderberry are loaded with nutrients and antioxidants that may help boost immunity and reduce inflammation and stress. Pretty amazing!
