Homemade caramels are a perfect bite of sweet goodness. This easy caramel candy recipe is really easy to make and is the perfect holiday food gift. 

These melt-in-your-mouth caramels have just four simple ingredients and take less than 30 minutes to make for dessert. No kidding! Here's what you need: brown sugar, butter, corn syrup and sweetened condensed milk. The nuts are optional. 

Serve these gluten-free and low-sodium caramel treats for dessert or as a sweet snack anytime you have a craving.

  • To use this as a sauce, melt a half sheet of the finished caramels with 1 to 2 cups heavy cream and whisk over low heat. Use it over cakes, ice cream or your favorite desserts.
  • For gift giving, wrap each caramel in a small square of parchment paper.

Here's how you make it:

  1. To a heavy saucepan, add the brown sugar and butter. Stir constantly over medium heat until melted. 
  2. Add the corn syrup and sweetened condensed milk. Cook, stirring, until temperature reaches 238 degrees F (use a candy thermometer).
  3. Pour mixture onto a buttered cookie sheet. Cool and cut into desired sizes.
  4. To add nuts, line the pan with some chopped nuts before you pour.
