Moist Chocolate Banana Bread Recipe: This Decadent Banana Bread Recipe Is a Winner

What happens when banana bread meets chocolate? Make this recipe and then you tell me (hint: #happiness).

Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour
Total Time: 1 hour and 10 minutes

Servings: 1 loaf

Here’s how you make it:

  1. Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt. Stir to combine.
  2. In another bowl, add mashed banana, melted butter, oil, brown sugar, egg, vanilla and 3/4 cup of the chocolate chips. Stir to combine.
  3. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Stir until just combined.
  4. Pour mixture into a greased loaf pan. Top with remaining 1/4 cup chocolate chips.
  5. Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for about 1 hour, or until toothpick comes out clean. Do not over bake! Cool about 10 minutes then remove from pan.

I used semisweet chocolate chips, but going to try dark chocolate when those 3 bananas on my counter get ripe enough. :-)

Donna John !! The upside is I think my kids will love this, so maybe I can keep from eating too much when we make it.

I just rediscovered this recipe and I'm making it soon. Weekend baking is my therapy, Donna John ! #yum
Bananas vary significantly in size, can you tell me how many cups of mashed bananas to use?
Donna John
JenniferColburn123 I never measure my bananas, and always use the max called for in a recipe. This one I used four for the loaf pictured. Just regular size bananas.
I was really looking forward to this but it didn't come out very good. I think it had too much oil and too much cocoa. Cocoa has a very strong bitter taste and the oil took away that nice bread/cake like texture. I'm sure this would have been awesome without the oil and cocoa. Just the chocolate chips in there would have been fine.

So sorry this did not turn out like you expected. We enjoy this recipe and love the deep, chocolate flavor. My daughter even created a vegan version of it: food: Vegan, Dairy-free & Gluten-free Chocolate Banana Bread Recipe: A Guilt-free Dessert Recipe mojorising73
Self-rising flour?
Donna John
If you use self-rising flour, you usually need to adjust the baking soda amount. I would stick with regular flour for this one. missymitch
Thanks for responding Donna John I made it before you responded and used self rising flour. I figured since there was no baking powder that probably needed to be self rising. What do I know? Lol Turned out pretty good. Thanks for the recipe
