Have Your Apples Lost Their Crispness? Don't Toss, Make Applesauce!

Don’t throw those apples out that are past their prime. Try this easy applesauce recipe!

You’ll need:

  • 6 apples, peeled and cut into pieces
  • 1/3 cup water
  • sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • dash salt

Here’s how you make it:

  1. Add cut apples to the water. Cover and cook until tender.
  2. Add sugar to taste (I use about 1/3 cup), cinnamon, nutmeg, butter and a dash of salt.
  3. Continue to cook and mash the apples as they cook.

This recipe makes a sweet filling for pies, tarts or crepes, a delicious topping on ice cream sundaes and is great served with pork roast. You can freeze it for later use. Enjoy!

Another use: Roll out some pastry, line your muffin tins, fill each with your applesauce, top with your favorite crumble topping and bake at 375 for 20 min. Now you have mini pies which are a great addition on your dessert buffet table.

My husband handed me four apples that were a little soft to feed to the deer. But instead, I made your applesauce, Judy Thow . It's now one of my new favorite things. It was so easy and SO good! I added a lot more cinnamon, as you can tell. Thanks for the recipe! And it's good hot and cold.
