Soft Serve Ice Cream Recipe: How to Make Homemade Soft Serve Ice Cream in Just 15 Minutes

Chill out the kids fast with this fun no-hassle activity – homemade soft serve ice cream. It's fun and delicious (for kids and adults).

Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 0 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

Here's how to make it:

  1. Combine the milk, vanilla, sugar and chocolate (if using) together in one of the quart bags. Seal tightly. Allow as little air inside as possible. Place this bag inside the other quart bag and seal.
  2. Put the double bagger bag inside the gallon-size bag and fill the big bag with ice. Salt the ice. Seal.
  3. Wrap the bag in the towel or put gloves on and massage so the ice surrounds the cream mixture and begins to freeze. Depending on your touch, you should have soft serve in 10 to 15 minutes. (Add additional freeze time in your freezer to convert into firmer ice cream.)

Start out with this small portion - see how the kids manage, then double the recipe ! It's all about learning to manage the bag within the bag- especially with the toddlers!
Donna John
Kids??? I'm making this with no kids, @chefgigi. Why do they get to have all the fun? :)
Gigi Gaggero
This recipe is best suited for Toddlers little hands . If the kids are bigger-- increase portion by doubling the recipe ! Watch out the bag does not pop open from the extra weight!
Gigi Gaggero

Is there a vegan way to make this, Chef Gigi Gaggero?
Gigi Gaggero
Donna John hummmm, not sure if Almind soy or kitty milk will work- I've never tested it. A freeze is a freeze is a freeze , so I don't see why not. I'll have to try it ! Great question!
Gigi Gaggero
Wait, kitty milk would not be Vegan-- def my bad! Retract , retract, retract ! 🐯
