My Body Belongs to Me: Tools to Help Parents Talk to Kids About Sexual Abuse by Francielle Daly

Talking about a sensitive topic such as sexual abuse to your child may be very uncomfortable, but it's so important. Yes, I was there. I feel like I started a little later in terms of really being open and explaining things to my daughter.

I was looking through tons of resources and was lucky to find this video on YouTube that's based on the book "My Body Belongs to Me" by Jill Starishevsky. Please help spread this far and wide. The video was produced "with the sole intent of creating the missing tool for educating children, for parents and educators. One in four girls and one in six boys are sexually abused by their 18th birthday. We can change that. 93 percent of the abuse is someone known to the child and not a stranger so keep that in mind when you talk to your kids."

This video is longer than 30 seconds, but we think it's worth it.

This is a great resource. This is an uncomfortable but essential topic to cover at home and in the classroom. I feel that if resources like these (combined with sensitive discussion) are used universally we might see a day when molesters' lives are made very difficult indeed.
