Infant CPR Video: Would You Know What to Do If Your Baby Stopped Breathing? Watch This ASAP! by David Wright
We don’t like to think about the prospect of a child stopping breathing, but being prepared can save a life. The fact is that almost one in four parents do not know how to administer infant CPR. The UK charity, St. John Ambulance, has released a short video that uses nursery rhyme characters to remind caregivers and parents of what to do in such an event.
So, would you know what to do? Here are the steps in the video song:
- If you are alone, perform CPR for one minute.
- Call an ambulance.
- Place the baby on a flat surface and tilt the head back.
- Cover the mouth and nose with your mouth.
- Give five small puffs of air, lasting about one second each.
- Use two fingers in the center of the chest, pump 30 times, at a rate of two pumps a second.
- Repeat this sequence with two puffs and 30 pumps until help arrives.
The St. John Ambulance video showing the right technique to help a choking child has been watched nearly seven million times and is credited with saving the lives of at least 46 children. Let's share and pass this crucial information on to other parents and caregivers. This video is longer than 30 seconds, but we think it's worth it.
