Early Childhood Education Teachers: Remember, We Are Adults Outside the Classroom! by Ron Howard

Early Childhood Education Teachers: Remember, We Are Adults Outside the Classroom!

I recently made a joke about John Barrasso on Facebook. I said, "John B. likes giving Australian kisses to M. McMconnell, aka French kisses down under.” I was promptly chastised by other teachers for being an Early Childhood Educator (ECE) and making such a remark.

Honestly, I didn't think it was all that dirty, but there have been calls to get me fired. I'm an outspoken person when it comes to current issues and I make jokes to keep it light. What people need to realize is that we ECEs are adults – not Mr. Rogers all the time – and we have constitutional voices that we can use as we please.

It is sad that there are holier than thou educators who, when they fart, only dogs and bats can hear it. I live in a very red state. I'm a Native American. I'm also a Democrat because being Native just wasn't self-deprecating enough.

I wish all who read this peace and prosperity.

P.S. Hone your sense of humor if need be. Thank you.

Yes, the list of "holier than thou" people in the world is quite long. And yes, educators are still people with opinions, and jokes they express outside of the classroom should be their business. Unfortunately, "haters gonna hate," Ron Howard . Hang in there. Welcome to our community of writers. We look forward to reading more from you!

As a fellow educator (I teach the "big kids"), I completely agree; we are adults outside the classroom with our own views and lives. Thanks for raising this, Ron Howard , and welcome to our community of writers!
