Families of College Freshmen As You Bring Your Student to Campus: A Letter From the Staff by Courtney Battista Bish

Dear Families of College Students,
I know it's hard. You're getting ready to make the journey to leave your babies on campuses across the country, unpack their belongings in a new room, make a new bed and hug them goodbye. You're entrusting them to us. After almost 20 years in higher education, I want to assure you that you are leaving them in good hands.
We love your students like they are our own kids, and we truly believe in the value of higher education. Most of us get little sleep during the academic year, because we, like you, are up late nights worrying about your kids. Are they sleeping? Did they attend that hall program? Are they striving academically? Did they make new friends? Are they making good choices? We worry about the same things you do.
The good news is that we are here, right here, with them. We are forcing them to attend those programs and introducing them to people in the dining hall. We are walking them to the counseling center and looking over their essays. We let them cry in our offices and we cheer for them from the sidelines when they score the goal. You are leaving them in good hands. You can do this!
Love,
Your friendly campus staff
