Becoming the Best Version of Yourself: Who Helps You Be Your Best YOU? Tell Us! by Ann Marie Patitucci

Becoming the Best Version of Yourself: Who Helps You Be Your Best YOU? Tell Us!

“The people we surround ourselves with either raise or lower our standards. They either help us to become the best version of ourselves or encourage us to become lesser versions of ourselves. We become like our friends. No man becomes great on his own. No woman becomes great on her own. The people around them help to make them great. We all need people in our lives who raise our standards, remind us of our essential purpose, and challenge us to become the best version of ourselves.”

I came across this quote on social media (thanks, Lauren!). It’s from "The Rhythm of Life: Living Every Day With Passion and Purpose" by Matthew Kelly. I scroll past a lot of quotes on social media and in my research, but this one made me stop. And think. And reflect. And feel gratitude for all of the remarkable people in my life. I shared it with my best friends from high school and college, telling them how much I miss them and thanking them for the important role they’ve played in my life for over 20 years.

I shared the quote with my local support system – my book club – because they remind me, on a regular basis, of my strengths and of my essential purpose, when stress and tweens and adulting and the weight of the world sometimes conspire to make me forget. And I shared it with my 30Seconds team, thanking them for challenging me to be better at what I do, to be more creative, more innovative, more fearless.

I love this quote and I have loved sharing it with the people in my life. I wonder ... who helps you to be the best version of you? Is it your partner who encourages you to follow your dreams? Your kids because you learn from them every day? Your colleagues because they push you to excellence? Your parents because they support you unconditionally? Your friends because they remind you how amazing you are on your most challenging days? We want to know! Comment below and share this 30Seconds piece with the special people who help you to be the best version of you!

I love this so very much, Ann Marie Gardinier Halstead ! You always make me stop and think. This quote is very powerful. I am thinking of all the people along my journey who have helped make me the best version of myself. Early on, my high school English teacher comes to mind. Now, my husband, Dieter Schmitz , for sure. I am so grateful for you and our team for inspiring me to greater heights, making me think even bigger, and for definitely helping to make me the best version of myself. THANK YOU! xoxo Donna John Nicole DeAvilla Renee Herren

This is sooo true! My mom used to tell me this as I was growing up. I feel fortunate to have amazing friendship. We are honest, build one another up and are there for the laughter and tears. Having a child gave me the ooomph to be a better version of me.

I have to say that my children help motivate me to be my best self. Because I am constantly trying to instill good habits and ethical behavior in them, I find that I am taking my own advice a lot of the time. If I am having a weak moment I ask myself, "What would I tell my kids?"
Gwen Johnson
My mother. I am still learning things from her. I got lucky in the mom department.
