Ukulele Flash Mobs: Tuning Up, Joining Up & Crashing Your Next Trip to Chick-fil-a! by Tiffany Zook

Ukulele Flash Mobs: Tuning Up, Joining Up & Crashing Your Next Trip to Chick-fil-a!

Food courts, sidewalk cafes, grocery stores, college campuses, state capitol buildings; none of them are safe from … ukulele flash mobs! From London to New York, ukulele players are tuning up, joining up and crashing your next shopping trip to the mall. Everything sounds cheerful on a uku – "Johnie B Good," "Ring of Fire," "La Bamba," "You are My Sunshine" and anything by the Beatles.

Truth be told, I was jealous that big cities were having all the fun, so I took matters into my own hands, and so should you. I joined forces with the local homeschool cooperative and I created my own flash mob. I taught eight super kids a few simple chords, printed out "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," and we did the impossible. We flash mobbed two nursing homes and a Chick-fil-a! It was a win-win-win! I passed down some ukulele skills to the next generation, the kids loved the silliness of it all and the senior citizens and community members enjoyed our impromptu concerts.

Next semester, I’m thinking we will "Uptown Funk" the hospital waiting room. What’s on your bucket list? Make it happen today. Your tribe is ready to cheer you on.
