DIY Ice Cream Cone Bird Feeders Craft Is Fun for Bird Lovers of All Ages

One of my greatest pleasures at home is watching the birds in the backyard. Right now we have cardinals, bluebirds, woodpeckers, robins, owls, hawks and a plethora of others I haven't identified yet. Inspired by Kim Kusiciel's bagel bird feeder idea, I came up with ice cream cone bird feeders to help me feed these feathered friends in a fun way.

The easy spring or summer craft is made with ice cream cones, peanut butter, birdseed and twine, yarn or string. Not only do the birds eat the birdseed, but also the cone.

Be sure to have some ice cream in the freezer so after your kids make a treat for the birds they can have one themselves. Happy bird watching!

You’ll need:

  • ice cream cones
  • peanut butter
  • birdseed
  • twine, yarn or string

Here’s how you make it:

  1. At the bottom of the cone, poke a hole through the sides (I used a small screwdriver).
  2. Thread a piece of twine, yarn or string through the holes and tie, creating a hanger.
  3. Spread peanut butter on the rim and sides of what was the top (but now the bottom) of the cone.
  4. Dip the peanut butter in birdseed to coat.
  5. Hang it in a tree and enjoy watching the birds.
