Better Natured DIY Hair Color: Healthier Hair Color You Can Do at Home for Less

Never before have so many of us become DIYers than during the last eight months. From home gyms to haircuts, we’ve been forced to come up with our own in-home solutions for self-care.

Does that mean swearing off the salon for good? Mmm, probably not. However, when it comes to maintaining your color, you can DIY safely at home for a lot less money and without the brassiness of drugstore “box color” selections.

Created by a group of a team of scientists, Better Natured is a professional line that offers affordable, naturally derived, professionally developed permanent hair color. Their secret is in the triple plant-milk blend of Tahitian palm, coconut and orchid milk which helps deliver high pigment, professional-level color while ensuring your hair stays conditioned.

Every formula is created at the company’s laboratory in Darien, Connecticut, where they have been developing products for nearly 50 years.

“When we started creating Better Natured hair color, we heard women’s frustration about having to choose between naturally-derived products and vibrant results,” says Michelle Ryan, head of marketing for Better Natured. “We vowed to help put an end to that sacrifice. So we committed to crafting a professional, salon-quality color with the highest number of naturally-derived ingredients possible and amazing vibrancy, coverage and long-lastingness – all the qualities you expect from professional color.”

In the natural beauty category, there’s a lot of fudging the details out there, Ryan explains. “Consumers deserve to know exactly what they’re using and why 100 percent of the time. So when developing Better Natured, we decided to hold ourselves to a more rigorous global standard on the definition of naturally-derived ingredients and to be as transparent as possible on our label about what we are using.”

Ryan says that regarding current color trends, Better Natured’s Pink Rose Gold Blonde is a more subtle alternative to the popular and bold Pandemic Pink that has made the rounds. For blondes who want to tone down their beachy color for fall and winter, she recommends a deeper blonde shade such as Better Natured’s Medium Warm Beige Blonde or Natural Dark Blonde. For brunettes, the Light Warm Beige Brown or Light Golden Brown are recommended to warm up brown colors. And finally, if you’ve got black hair with stubborn grey grow in, she recommends 1N Black to subdue and cover the most resistant grays.

“With Better Natured, consumers have the freedom to mix and match shades themselves, creating their own customized formula,” Ryan says. “This is because the line is professionally calibrated by level and tone to ensure precise results. Our line contains 26 shades from classic gray-covering neutral and ash shades, to the latest vibrant fashion shades like 4VV for an intense violet, 8NRG for a stunning rose gold red or 8BA for real blue-ash blue.”

I'm going to go with a slightly darker shade to tone down the highlights and ease into winter.

OMG, Belinda Lichty Clarke , I just went to the salon for highlights - first time all year. As the pandemic gets worse again, I don't want to go back if I don't have to, so this sounds like a great solution. Thanks for sharing!
