Activated Charcoal: Why Charcoal Is the New Black for All Things Beauty

What's up with the charcoal hype? As a supplement, while it's often touted as a hangover cure and toxin absorber, there is very little evidence to support it's a good thing to ingest on a regular basis. So what about activated charcoal in beauty products? Turns out, the hype is actually real.

To put it simply, charcoal works on the surface of your skin to draw out bacteria, unclog pores and absorb oil, which explains why you're seeing it in so many products. And it's not just skin care. Because of it's purifying nature, activated charcoal is now an ingredient in shampoo, toothpaste and a lot more. Here are a few products I like:

I am really bad about buying beauty products and then never using them. So this post inspired me to try a charcoal mask I had in THAT drawer. Think everyone should post their activated charcoal faces here! :-) Belinda Lichty Clarke Elisa All Schmitz 30Seconds Meredith Schneider
