No Kid Hungry: Why Summer Is Not All Fun & Games for Every Child & How You Can Help by Kimberly Johnson

As a work-at-home mom I will admit one of my first thoughts as the school year was winding down was, "How am I going to keep my kids fed this summer?" Not because we cannot afford to feed them, but because they are bottomless pits, as most growing children are.

I know we are fortunate to have all our needs met daily along with multiple grocery stores, Sam's Club and Costco minutes away to restock whenever necessary. Sadly, not all families have the security of purchasing food for their families when they need it, which amounts to 14 million children nationwide going to bed hungry.

Summer is often the hungriest time of year for children who typically rely on free meals received at school. Thankfully there are organizations like No Kid Hungry to help provide summer meals to children 18 and under. Families can text FOOD or COMIDA to 877-877 and type in their zip code to find the nearest summer meals sites, along with operating days and times. No application or registration is required at sites. Locations are also available at fns.usda.gov.

Donations to help be part of the solution can be made via the following link. For $10, you can provide up to 100 meals!

❤️ this tip. I have noticed my kiddo eats non stop these days and I can’t imagine not having enough for him , there are days I sometimes can’t believe he is still hungry but he is! We can all get kids involved too by teaching them to hold bake sales and make lunches for the local food bank , even donations for our church ⛪ food collections can help! Great tip Kim!
