The Royal Wedding: A True Brit's 5 Reasons Why the Wedding Is Cause for Celebration

My friend, Trish Saltzman, has relocated from London to Illinois, but her heart will be in Windsor on Saturday. Here's why she's happily anticipating the royal wedding!

  • Because no one does pageantry like the British. Carriages, horses, castles, palaces, guards, cavalry. Did I say castles?!
  • We’re talking about the most eligible bachelor in the U.K. right now. He’s popular, he and his brother are a lot more interesting than the generation before them and Harry's more straight laced than his brother. It’s going to be fun watching this modern pair walk the tightrope of tradition and modernity.
  • As a hugely understated nation, where no one has a flag pole on their house, Saturday is clear permission to pull out the flags, host street parties, bake scones, buy mugs.
  • Bit morbid this one, but the truth in the hearts of at least two generations of Brits is that those boys had to walk behind their mother’s casket in front of millions, which is something no one could bear watching. Diana adored them. That loss was unfathomable. William found Kate, and her solid family. Harry has been adrift for years and we are relieved, happy, thrilled even, that perhaps he will finally gets his own chance at some happily ever after, and a nation can breathe again. Seeing him with a soulmate and in love is something very big to celebrate!

Are you excited about the royal wedding? Tell us why!

I love this! Great post, Belinda Lichty Clarke and Trish. YES, I am so excited about the royal wedding! It's something about both Harry and Meghan getting their "happily ever after" that is making me so emotional. Princess Diana has a lot to do with it, too. I think many of us still mourn her, and this is a big happy to help balance the big tragedy. I wish them so much joy together!

I love this too, Belinda Lichty Clarke ! But... Harry is more straight- laced than his brother? I always thought he was considered the more wild one! I have failed at keeping up with the royals! :)
