Heather Senior Monroe, MSW, LCSW, is a psychotherapist and licensed clinical social worker who specializes in treating trauma and its destructive effects on individuals and families. She has worked in the fields of treatment and prevention for more than 10 years and has implemented solution-focused techniques with teenagers in a wide range of settings.

Before joining the Newport Academy team, Heather was the Director of Family Services at Partnership for Drug-Free Kids in New York City, before leaving to focus solely on trainings for families around effective prevention and workshops for adolescents in treatment centers. Prior to her work with the Partnership, Heather was cofounder and Clinical Director of Arahant Health Services, an intensive outpatient program, and maintained a private practice in Denver, Colorado.

Heather utilizes her expertise in mindfulness and expressive therapies to guide residents at Newport Academy through the healing process. She also presents regularly to middle and high schools about building connections, resiliency, and how to build healthy parent-child relationships. She teaches parents how to help their children deal with difficult emotions and understand the family’s role in the development of teens as they prepare for the next stage of their life as healthy, happy, and independent adults.
