Love Strawberries? Get Your Kids to Not Only Eat 'Em, But Help Grow 'Em!

Kids love gardening, especially sweet fruit like strawberries! If you have a sunny spot in your yard, put up a simple raised bed, add good soil and plant some strawberries. Other than sun, water and mulching, they need little else.

There are two varieties: June bearing and Day Neutral. June bearing is what I use here in Georgia. The first year, pinch off the blooms so all the plant’s energy returns to the roots, making healthier plants.

Look online for tips to grown the best berries. Next May (in the South) you’ll have a three-week period of yummy strawberries.

Strawberry shortcake, anyone?
