Feelings of depression are common during times of distress in our lives. There are some helpful things you can do to overcome these feelings.

  • Acknowledge what you're feeling. It's OK to say, "I'm sad." "I'm feeling depressed." "I'm having a rough day." In fact, it's GOOD to say how you feel to people you can trust and to reach out and talk about what you're experiencing.
  • Practice self-care. Are you taking good care of yourself? Are you getting enough sleep, exercising, eating nutritious foods and getting some time for yourself each day, or time with friends to help you rejuvenate?
  • Seek professional help as needed. If you're doing these things and it isn't helping, please reach out to a mental health provider who can teach you the tools to feel healthy and happy again.
