Do You Know What rbST Is? If You Drink Milk, You Need to Read This!

Many "conventional" dairy farm cows can be treated with something called recombinant bovine somatotropin (aka rbST). This rbST is a GMO. It is a version of a naturally occurring hormone in milk-producing animals that stimulates production. Yes, it’s made in a lab.

Today, many large corporate dairies inject rbST into their dairy cows to make them produce more milk. So in turn they make more money. Doing so increases the cows risk for the painful inflammation called mastitis, and other bad, hurtful things. This is when antibiotics are administered and gets into our milk production – another potential health risk from having rbST in our milk supply. Some researchers believe it increases human levels of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), which is linked to cancer in humans (read more about this here).

I personally feel you should eat organic when you can. What do you think?

When I do buy milk, I buy organic, @chefgigi. But my reason is that it has such a longer expiration date vs. regular milk. My husband can't drink milk, so regular milk tends to go bad before I use it all. Now I have another reason. Thanks for sharing this important info!

Whoa Donna John I had no idea that organic Milk has a longer shelve life!!interesting. I don't drink Milk - I used to -- lots of it ! Then someone told me that humans are the only mammal that drinks another mammals milk --- 😳 which completely grossed me out I haven't touched it since. Strange but true! Lol

Yes, organic milk has a way longer shelf life. Weeks. Sometimes you buy regular milk and the expiration date is the next week. I don't buy milk anymore unless it's for a recipe, and then it's just a pint like I bought yesterday to soak deer backstrap in. (My first time cooking that, so if you hav a good recipe let me know!) Got a milk-sensitive husband and I was never a big milk drinker, so I've moved on. May try almond milk tho. Chef Gigi Gaggero

I'm an Almond milk girl....so many crazy stories about cow's milk. The boys in my family don't like almond milk so I buy organic for them. I'm with you Chef Gigi Gaggero seems weird that we are the only living creature that drinks another creature's milk! I'm vegan so I guess the whole thing wigs me out!! 😜😁
